Institute Awards
The CIOT are delighted to honour members and tax professionals for their hard work, dedication and commitment to taxation. We are able to honour such individuals through the CIOT Institute Awards.
The Council Award – this is an exceptional award, reflecting a significant and sustained contribution to the values, aims and objectives of the CIOT and to the tax profession. Only 6 individuals have received this prestigious award this since 2010, and these are:
- Ian Luder 2010
- John Avery Jones 2011
- John Andrews 2012
- John Whiting 2013
- Anthony Thomas 2017
- Heather Self 2020
Honorary Fellowship - the Rt Hon Gordon Brown received this award from Past President, Peter Rayney in 2022. There are over 30 honorary fellows of the CIOT, and you can see the full awards listing here. Honorary Fellowship nominations recognise the valuable contributions made to the tax world by members and non-members. These contributions may include the development or implementation of tax policies, as well as furthering the public education of tax.
Certificate of Merit - awarded in recognition of a significant contribution to the charity's public benefit requirement and charitable aims but importantly you do not have to be a member to receive this accolade. The judging panel looks for evidence of the nominee's contribution having demonstrated, amongst other things: innovation or adaptation to challenges, setting high standards, of having built public trust and confidence and having a clear impact or achievement which has taken place in the last three years. There have been 67 awards in this category.
Branch Certificate of Appreciation – this award will be given in recognition of a significant contribution to the CIOT Branch’s aims, in line with the charity’s aims and public benefit. The commitment of many Branch volunteers to deliver interesting and relevant programmes is truly inspirational, and this Award is in appreciation for such outstanding work.
The criteria for each Award is outlined here. If you wish to nominate someone for one of these special awards please complete our online form.
