An ICAEW-CIOT Conference | 20 years of HMRC: reflections and looking ahead

Tuesday 11 March 2025

In April 2005 Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise merged to become HMRC.  Through a combination of keynote speeches and panel sessions, our ICAEW and CIOT conference will mark two decades since that milestone in UK tax administration.

Join us and a cast of key players in HMRC’s past, present and future to discuss the merger, the 20 years since, the organisation’s current priorities and what its future holds. Expert-led breakout sessions will cover areas including tax policymaking and digitalisation.

Keynote Speakers

Lord Gus O’Donnell CB (Former Cabinet Secretary and chair of the review which led to the creation of HMRC).

James Murray MP (Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and current Chair of the Board of HMRC).

Panellists include David Gauke, Lord Macpherson of Earls Court, Heather Self and Professor Penelope Tuck.
