Recognising the highest ADIT achievers

1 Aug 2024

Since the first ADIT exams were sat 20 years ago, a range of prestigious awards has been assembled to recognise the exceptional achievements of those international tax professionals who score the highest marks among our growing population of ADIT students around the world.

The ADIT exams are designed to challenge students at an advanced level of international tax understanding and analysis, so anyone who successfully passes an ADIT exam – or achieves the full qualification – can feel extremely proud of their accomplishment. Furthermore, for students who achieve the very highest marks, the following medals and prizes are available:

  • the Heather Self Medal, for the best overall performance in the Principles of International Taxation module
  • the Raymond Kelly Medal, for the best overall performance in the United Kingdom module
  • the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers Prize, for the best overall performance in the remaining Jurisdiction modules
  • the Tom O'Shea Prize, for the best overall performance in the EU Direct Tax module
  • the IVA Prize, for the best overall performance in the EU VAT module
  • the Croner-i Prize, for the best overall performance in the Transfer Pricing module
  • the Wood Mackenzie Prize, for the best overall performance in the Energy Resources module

Each of the awards carries the name of either a sponsoring institution or a notable name in the history of the ADIT qualification. Heather Self first conceived the idea for a professional international tax qualification, while Raymond Kelly and Dr Tom O’Shea were highly distinguished experts in international tax who each contributed to the development and delivery of the ADIT exams for a number of years.

The Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers is a livery company of the City of London which complements the activities of professional bodies involved in the tax field. Among its other activities, the WCTA supports and encourages ADIT learning both in its sponsorship of a prize and by funding an annual bursary for ADIT students in need of financial assistance.

Croner-i is a major publisher and information resource in fields including tax and accounting, while Wood Mackenzie is a global provider of data and analytics across the energy sector.

The newest ADIT award is the IVA Prize. This prize is supported by the International VAT Association, the leading independent body on international VAT and GST, whose activities include working with administrations, policy makers and business to improve VAT and GST systems globally. The IVA organises two annual conferences, regular webinars on a range of VAT topics, two monthly newsletters, regular meetings with administrations and policy makers and provides access to VAT specialists globally; visit www.vatassociation.org for more information.

Award winners for the June 2024 ADIT exams, including the inaugural recipient of the IVA Prize, will be announced on Wednesday 21 August at www.tax.org.uk/adit/pass-lists. The award winners will be invited to celebrate their achievement at a forthcoming ADIT Awards Ceremony. The IVA Prize will, in addition, be awarded to the successful candidate at one of the IVA’s conferences.
