Downloadable paper CGT property return – trial ends but forms can still be used

As announced in Agent Update 106, HMRC made the paper version of the Capital Gains Tax on UK property return, with accompanying notes, available to download on a trial basis. The trial began in February 2023 and was extended until the end of September 2023 as announced in Agent Update 111.

As of 30 September 2023, the trial for the downloadable paper version of the Capital Gains Tax on UK property return has come to an end. However, the downloadable form(s) remain available online while HMRC evaluate the results of the trial and HMRC have confirmed that they will continue to accept the downloadable form(s) in the circumstances specified.
