Get Involved

The Branch Network has over 300 volunteers who are regional ambassadors for the Institute and play a central role in helping the CIOT achieve its primary charitable aims. Our community of volunteers across the UK, Channel Islands and beyond deliver a well-respected annual programme of Branch events between September and June. The continued efficient running of these events is dependant on their support and that of new volunteers.

What being a Branch Volunteer means for you

As a branch volunteer you will be the name and face for the CIOT and ATT within your local tax community. This is an excellent way to raise your profile and is also potentially a route to becoming a Council Member.

Volunteering with your local branch provides opportunities to exchange views and experiences with fellow tax professional, thereby further developing your personal and professional networks.

The Branch Committees are open to volunteers at any stage of their career and can offer opportunities to suit a variety of different skills and experiences.

"Above all has been the sense of achievement from being able to make things happen. Whilst we are obviously a charity and do have procedures laid down by Head Office, there is a considerable amount of freedom to do what you and the committee think best in your own location and indeed try new things. WhiIst it was a bit disconcerting at first to try to work out exactly what I should do, I have enjoyed learning, bringing forward new initiatives and growing into the role".

What do branch volunteers do?

Your local Branch Network Committee is made up of a volunteer group of CIOT and ATT members from the local area. These volunteers:

  • Promote the values of the Institute and Association to the wider public in accordance with our charitable objectives
  • Provide a core programme of technical continuing professional development (CPD) to local Branch Members of the CIOT and ATT and members of the public
  • Build up good relations on a local level with other professional bodies, firms and relevant third parties
  • Provide an opportunity for members and non-members to meet other tax professionals and share technical issues.
