HMRC announces early closure of the customs and excise modernising authorisations project

HMRC have provided a statement about the early closure of the customs and excise modernising authorisations digitisation project for importers and exporters. This cessation follows the early closure of the border digitisation single trade window project last year.

The project closure means that none of the current application processes for customs and excise authorisations will be setup to allow third party agents, ie not customs brokers, to submit customs and excise authorisation applications on behalf of their clients as anticipated.

The CIOT, along with other industry and representative stakeholders, will be attending meetings with the Joint Customs Consultative Committee over the coming weeks about next steps.
