CIOT, IFS and IFG urge Chancellor to take strategic approach to tax policy

2 Mar 2020

Ahead of next week’s Budget, the Chartered Institute of Taxation has joined the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Institute for Government in writing a joint letter to the new Chancellor, Rishi Sunak.

Following up their 2017 Better Budgets report, the three organisations ask the new Chancellor to:

  • Maintain the Government’s commitment to holding just a single principal annual fiscal event
  • Take a strategic approach to tax policy, setting clear guiding principles and objectives
  • Extend the road-map approach to tax policy-making
  • Carry out full, open and early consultation
  • Undertake more systematic evaluation of tax measures
