Polish tax advisers mobilise to help Ukraine refugees
The Polish National Foundation of Tax Advisers has stepped up to play its part in the country’s huge effort to support Ukrainian refugees. The foundation, the charitable arm of the Chamber of Polish Tax Advisers (KIDP), a sister body of CIOT in CFE Tax Advisers Europe, has been coordinating the work of volunteer members who have been driving to the border, providing money, food, clothing, and other essentials.
Our friends in KIDP tell us that large numbers of the profession in Poland have stepped up to the challenge the war has brought and are doing all they can to support refugees, which currently number around 1.2 million in Poland alone, and to deliver humanitarian support into Ukraine. So far their activities include:
- coordinating members who have been driving to the border, picking up refugees and either inviting them to their homes or to another safe place;
- the purchase of 19 tons of flour from a local mill, delivered into Ukraine;
- a further 4 tons leaving Poland, crossing at Kroczowa and going further on into Lviv in the next few days;
- the collection of 330 prams;
- the warehousing of 40 tonnes of supplies, including medicine, dressings, food, clothes and hygiene products from the UK, to be distributed to Ukraine and to Polish orphanages that have welcomed children from Ukrainian care institutions.
Additionally they have signed an agreement with the Association of Polish Judges to jointly assist Ukrainian war refugees in finding a job in the profession in which they practice, helping them change career if necessary, finding foster families for orphans, provision of legal aid and learning Polish, among other things.
If you would like to support their work, or just find out more about it, please see their website. The site is in Polish but popular browsers will translate it (there should be an option to translate the webpage to 'English' in a grey pop-up window on the top right).
