CTA Exams - 2024 - Test Centres

The CTA exams will continue to be held in Test Centres in 2024.

Exam4 will continue to be used, with it being pre-loaded onto the devices at the Test Centres.

Remember, no ID will mean no entry to the exam room.  There will be no exceptions to this.

Online Legislation

The exams are closed book, which means Candidates cannot access anything other than Online Legislation and the Tax Tables.

Candidates have a choice of two providers - Croner-i or Tolley’s Digital Library - from whom they can purchase the Online Legislation, which they will be able to login and access online during their exams.

Click here for more information on purchasing the Online Legislation. Candidates are reminded that there is a separate login for each of these providers for these Student only versions of the Online Legislation.  If at work you use either of the providers with a non-student subscription, you will not be able to access that version in your exam.

Candidates should purchase the Online Legislation as soon as they start their studies, so that they are confident with the functionality.  Whilst the Student only versions will not be exactly the same as other products candidates might currently use for their day to day work, they will likely be very similar.

Candidates will not be able to bring in any hard copies of legislation, nor any other materials, into the Test Centre.  However, each candidate will have a hard copy of the Tax Tables on their desk.  See the Candidate Instructions for full information.

Exam entry for 2024 exams

Candidates will book their CTA exam as normal, with part of the booking process involving selecting their first choice of Test Centre venue.

Click here to find out when exam entry opens and other key dates and deadlines.

Please note that as space will be limited at each Test Centre, places will be awarded on a first come first served basis.  If a location is not listed when a candidate attempts to book their exam, that will be because it is full for that session and is no longer available.

Whilst there should be sufficient space to accommodate the vast majority of candidates at their first choice location, the CIOT reserves the right to move a candidate to the next nearest Test Centre or, in extreme circumstances, to an overflow Test Centre in London.  Early booking is strongly recommended, especially for the two most popular papers, Advanced Technical Taxation of Owner Managed Businesses and Taxation of Individuals.

Approximately three weeks before the exam day, candidates will then receive a confirmation email with all their exam details, including the location of the Test Centre they will be attending.

Exam4 will continue to be used in Test Centres

Candidates will need to have practiced using Exam4 before going to the Test Centre.

A dummy version of Exam4 will again be available on the website around three weeks before each exam session.  This can be found here.

All exams will be on Windows devices, so there will not be a dummy version of Exam4 for Mac devices.  Candidates will have to practice on a Windows device.

The exam invigilators at the Test Centres will be there to help in exceptional circumstances only.  They will not be able to help with queries candidates have on how to use Exam4 and its functionality.  Candidates must watch all the guidance videos.
